Google Restructures Into Alphabet, Separating Search From Moonshots
On August 10, 2015, Google announced it was becoming a subsidiary of a new holding company called Alphabet, with Larry Page as CEO and Sundar Pichai taking the reins at Google itself. The move was designed to wall off the lucrative advertising engine from speculative bets on self-driving cars and life sciences. Nearly a decade later, that structural clarity helped pave the way for Alphabet's first-ever dividend, initiated in 2024.
The reorganization that once looked bureaucratic turned out to be the quiet foundation for Alphabet's dividend debut.

Brazil Levies Zero Withholding on Dividends, With a Notable Catch
Brazilian dividends are paid gross to all investors β including non-residents holding ADRs like VALE, PBR, ITUB, or BBD β making them among the more tax-efficient foreign income streams available. But Brazil's dual-distribution system means some payments arrive labeled as juros sobre capital prΓ³prio (JCP), a corporate tax deduction that carries a 15% withholding rate. Two cash distributions from the same company can land with entirely different tax treatment depending solely on how each one is classified.
In an IRA, Brazilian dividends lose nothing to withholding β but any JCP payments do, with no way to recover it.

Emerson Electric Marks 69 Consecutive Years of Dividend Increases
Founded in St. Louis in 1890, Emerson Electric has grown from motors and fans into a global automation and technology company operating in more than 150 countries β and it has raised its dividend every single year since 1957. That 69-year streak places it among only a handful of public companies with a longer run. Its 2022 acquisition of AspenTech signals a pivot toward high-margin industrial software, a strategic bet aimed at sustaining the streak well into the future.
Six decades of unbroken increases, and Emerson is still engineering ways to keep the streak alive.

Dividend Kings Average 4% Yield β Compounding Is the Real Product
The 57 Dividend Kings β companies with 50 or more consecutive years of dividend increases β collectively average roughly a 4% yield, which won't turn heads in a high-yield screen. But these stocks are engineered for compounding: a company yielding 3.5% that raises its payout 7% annually can double your income over time without you buying a single additional share. California Water Service, with 77 consecutive years of increases, has weathered seven recessions to prove the model.
Dividend Kings aren't built for today's highest yield β they're built so tomorrow's yield surprises you.
